2nd Project : The 'In/Out Of Your Niche' Exhibition

Project Year : 2011

Location : Online

The human mind is moulded through experience and conforms itself to social standards. A uniformity is revealed. Such coherence will reflect a certain entity through time.

Up to a point, such consistency may be socially valuable, but this makes gradually, for individual death for it is contrary to nature, life and adaptation.

This project has been proposed on a basis to reflect the difficulty encountered by artists to defy this process. Consequently, each artist will have two artworks in different mediums presenting this approach on a practical level. The first should be representative of her/his expert medium as for the second, it should be the medium that she/he never used before and should be in a new medium to her/him as an artist.

Through this experiment we want to examine various points regarding the singularity of Art and Art creation. Seen as worthy enough to be a global project, this examination will present to the public the artists' preferences embodied within each medium.

This examination serves as a research on the possible connections between art and artists since one artwork will be an innovation through a newly discovered medium.

As the first project, our interest resides in seeking a meaning through art and its definition, touching the possibility of establishing connections between art and context.

Impressions

"My chief medium is collage but I have also made drawings and photos, so I had to try something beyond those three. Some fast attempts at painting did not show much promise. I was feeling some anxiety and some deadline pressure when I thought of an assemblage piece. Assemblage is rather like three dimensional collage, so the piece was "out of my niche" in the sense of coming from my artistic niche as well as not being in my niche." Richard Leach.

"To discover new means and direct our attention through them is not an easy task, i thought of it as a challenging experience." Georges Hattab.
